Why Home A Hive?

A beehive in your yard does way more than you think.

🍯

Fresh Local Honey

Expect 5-10 lbs of honey in your first year as the colony establishes. By year two, 25+ lbs per hive. Our long-term hosts regularly pull 50+ lbs per year. That's hyper-local honey made from flowers in YOUR neighborhood, jarred with custom labels featuring your name.

🌻

Supercharge Your Garden

Bees pollinate everything within a 3-5 mile radius. Your flowers bloom bigger, your vegetables produce more, and your fruit trees thrive. Expect 20-60% better yields from pollination alone.

🌎

Help the Planet

Bee populations are declining worldwide. By hosting a hive, you're directly contributing to pollinator conservation. Matthews is a Bee City USA community - join the movement.

💰

Honey Pays for Itself

Local raw honey sells for $14-$18 per pound in Matthews. By year two, each hive produces $375+ worth of honey - and long-term hives hitting 50+ lbs are worth $750+. Sell it, gift it, or keep it all for yourself.

Year-Round Expert Care

Bees need different care each season. We're there for every single one.

🌸

Spring

Mar - May

Colony buildup, swarm prevention, health inspections, adding honey supers. The bees are waking up and we're there guiding them.

☀️

Summer

Jun - Aug

Honey harvest time! We extract, jar, and label your honey. Plus ongoing health monitoring, mite checks, and feeding during the summer dearth.

🍂

Fall

Sep - Nov

Critical winterization prep: mite treatments, supplemental feeding, insulation installation, moisture management, and ensuring adequate honey stores.

❄️

Winter

Dec - Feb

Winter monitoring, weight checks, ventilation management, equipment maintenance, and planning for spring. The bees are clustered and warm - we make sure they stay that way.

Every season requires expert attention. That's why your plan covers 12 months of professional beekeeping care - because bees don't take days off, and neither do we.

Your Honey, Your Way

Every drop of honey produced is yours to keep. We harvest it, jar it, and design custom labels just for you.

Gift It

Custom-labeled honey jars make the most thoughtful gifts. Holidays, birthdays, housewarming - everyone loves local honey with a personal touch.

💵

Sell It

Local raw honey sells for $10-$18 per jar in Matthews. By year two you're looking at 25+ lbs per hive - and long-term hosts hit 50+ lbs. That's dozens of jars to sell at farmers markets.

Many people swear by local honey for seasonal allergies. Your honey contains pollen from flowers right in your neighborhood.

🍸

Mix Craft Cocktails

Honey syrup elevates any cocktail. The classic Bee's Knees, hot toddies, honey old fashioneds - all made with your own backyard honey.

Your Garden Will Explode With Life

Flowers bloom bigger and more vibrant - roses, sunflowers, lavender, and wildflowers all thrive with bee pollination

Vegetable gardens produce 20-60% more - tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, peppers, and beans all benefit massively

Fruit trees actually produce fruit - apple, cherry, peach, and blueberry yields skyrocket with proper pollination

Your whole neighborhood benefits - bees forage in a 3-5 mile radius, helping every garden around you

Common Questions

Will I get stung? +

Honeybees are gentle and non-aggressive. They're focused on foraging, not bothering you. We place hives in low-traffic areas of your yard with entrance facing away from where you hang out. Most of our clients forget the hive is even there until harvest day!

What if I have an HOA? +

North Carolina law protects your right to keep up to 5 hives on your property - local governments can't ban it. However, private HOAs can have their own rules. We'll help you check before we install anything. Many HOAs are surprisingly bee-friendly once they understand the benefits!

When do I get honey? +

New colonies spend their first year building up, but you'll still get 5-10 lbs of honey. By year two, expect 25+ lbs per hive as the colony matures. Our long-term hosts regularly harvest 50+ lbs per hive per year. We set honest expectations from day one.

What if the bees die? +

Colony loss is a reality of beekeeping - it happens even to the best beekeepers. That's why every plan includes our free colony replacement guarantee. If a colony doesn't survive, we replace it at no extra cost. That's our promise.

How much space do I need? +

A single hive only takes up about 2x3 feet of ground space. We recommend placing it at least 10 feet from property lines and away from high-traffic areas. Most Matthews backyards have plenty of room. We'll assess your yard during the free property visit.

Do I need to do anything? +

Nope! We handle absolutely everything - inspections, feeding, treatments, harvesting, jarring, and labeling. The only thing we ask is that you keep a water source near the hive (a birdbath works great) and avoid spraying pesticides near the hive area.

Who owns the hive and bees? +

We do! That's the beauty of it - you're simply giving the hive a home (that's where our name comes from). You take on zero risk and zero upfront cost. As your colony grows and multiplies, we can gift you your very own colony to keep, or you can buy out the hive and own everything outright. Many of our clients start as hosts and eventually become beekeepers themselves!

What happens if I cancel? +

No hard feelings! Since we own the equipment and bees, we simply come pick everything up. No cancellation fees, no penalties. Or, if you've fallen in love with the bees, you can buy out the hive and keep it. We'll even teach you the basics if you want to manage it yourself.

What areas do you serve? +

We're currently focused on Matthews and the surrounding area including Mint Hill, Stallings, Indian Trail, Weddington, and Waxhaw. Expanding to greater Charlotte soon! Not sure if we cover your area? Just ask!
